FAQ’s

Some commonly askwed questions, answered.

Can you design me a logo?

Yes!

Please contact me if you would like to discuss your branding.

In the mean time, check out this blog post for some more information about how I go about designing logo’s and what it entails.
You can also download a logo questionnaire form here.

How long will it take to get my logo?

The time it takes to create a logo and brand design varies from project to project. Once we have had an initial chat about the scope of the project I should be able to give you a more accurate timescale for the project.

Here’s a little more information to help you understand the Logo Design Process.

Research

After we’ve met in person to discuss your business, or you’ve completed my logo questionnaire, (available to download here), I squirrel myself away for a few days and get on with some research.
I often refer to the questionnaire at this stage, giving me insight into your business, your needs and wants, design perspective, and who the logo should resonate with (both you and your clients!)
This research is vital, putting myself in your shoes and getting to know what you do, why you do it, and who you’re doing it for. It sets the foundation for the design stage and gets the ideas flowing.

Scamps / Sketches

‘Scamp – a first rough or mockup usually used in artworking terms’
Quick and messy, ideas usually come thick and fast.
Often the most spontaneous, instinctive and unforced scribbles are the most successful; although this does not mean they are uninformed – they resonate the research completed previously.
Once I come to something I like, that doesn’t mean the sketching process is concluded – I’ll often sketch out many many more ideas until I feel I have a good representation of the concept; even if I end up coming back to that initial sketch that really resonated with me.

Distillation

I seek out the rough sketches with the most potential, import them into Adobe Illustrator and start playing with the shapes and forms. At this stage I am working in black and white, combining and simplifying ideas.
Often I like to come back to this part of the design stage over the course of around a week, which gives me time to think and get perspective on the design.

Concepts

I usually present up to three concepts to review with the client; here we can discuss which concepts work best, choose a final design and decide if any tweaks are required.

Finalising

Based on the client’s feedback, I will complete the design and present it.
I will also provide you with all of the logo files and a guide for how to use them.

Brand Guidelines

If the client requires a branding and style guide, I usually work on some of this concurrently to the logo. Once the logo is finalised; I can continue with the brand guidelines, adding colours, typography and brand collateral.

Do you build websites?

Yes!

Please contact me if you would like to discuss your website.

I build websites on WordPress using the Divi framework and also Squarespace.
Let’s have a chat about which option suits your needs.

How much does a website cost?

There are many factors that determine cost from concept to implementation and there is not a one “package” fits all solution. The cost can vary widely depending on what your project needs are and how long I think it will take to complete the project. Please fill out a “design inquiry” form to get an estimate.

How long will it take to finish my website design?

Like anything creative, designing a website can take time. It can take anywhere from a few weeks, to a few months or even longer to launch a new website. How soon I can begin working will depend on a few things such as

  • the size of your website
  • complexity of the design
  • if you already have the content or if it is ready
  • the time it takes you to provide me with feedback on my work
  • my current schedule

Do you register domain names?

No, I always recommend my client keep control of their own domain names – after all this is your online identity.

I highly recommend using Hover, their customer service is fantastic! If you use my referral link you will get a $2 discount off your first purchase.

Will you update my website or will I be able to?

I strongly encourage all of my clients to maintain their own sites! I use WordPress & the Divi website builder to create all of the sites I build allowing my clients to easily maintain their own sites.  I usually organise a quick tutorial on handover of the site. However, if you would rather have me keep everything updated I do offer monthly support retainer packages.

Do you require a deposit?

Yes, I require a 50% deposit on all projects before any design work can begin.
